Job Title: Structures Mechanic - Heavy Checks
Job DescriptionThis role focuses on performing heavy checks and structural modifications on B737 and A330 aircraft in a large maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hangar and shop campus. You will work on complex structural tasks, including C checks and cabin modification projects, using OEM and engineering documentation to ensure high-quality, precision work on aircraft structures and systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform heavy interior modifications, including efficient removal and reinstallation of cabin monuments without rework.
- Modify and repair aircraft water and waste interface systems in accordance with engineering requirements.
- Precisely locate and install monument hard points on aircraft floor structures using appropriate tools and measurements.
- Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft component structures to restore structural integrity.
- Repair and modify flight control surfaces and associated components following OEM and engineering drawings.
- Use special installation tools, including blind rivet guns, to install fasteners and structural hardware.
- Interpret and follow OEM and engineering drawings to modify aircraft structures accurately and safely.
- Complete specialized structural tasks such as flap peening and cold working as directed.
- Fabricate repair parts using special shop tooling, including brakes and stretchers, to meet structural repair needs.
- Participate in orientation and safety training during the first week and then transition to the assigned heavy check hangar schedule.
- Use basic and specialized hand tools, including hi-lok pliers and bucking bars, to perform drilling, riveting, and structural assembly tasks.
- Work collaboratively with other technicians and support staff in the hangar and shop environment to complete heavy checks and modification projects on schedule.
Essential Skills- Minimum 4+ years of precision aircraft structures drilling and blind riveting experience in an MRO environment.
- Proven experience in aircraft structural repairs, including sheet metal and structural assembly work.
- Ability to perform structures repairs in a heavy maintenance or modification environment, including drilling, riveting, and installation of structural components.
- Proficiency with blind fastener installation and use of blind rivet guns.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from OEM and engineering drawings for aircraft structures.
- Experience with heavy checks and structural modifications on transport-category aircraft.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and airframe tools, including wrenches, socket sets, hi-lok pliers, and bucking bars.
- Willingness to work any assigned shift and remain open to first or second shift as required.
- Capability to work safely in a hangar and shop environment and follow all safety training and procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Preferred experience with heavy interior modifications, including cabin reconfiguration projects.
- Preferred experience with heavy check or modification work on Airbus aircraft and systems.
- Familiarity with Airbus water and waste interface systems (preferred).
- Experience modifying and repairing water and waste interface systems on commercial aircraft.
- Experience with specialized structural tasks such as flap peening and cold working.
- Ability to fabricate repair parts using special shop tooling, such as brakes and stretchers.
- Access to and proficiency with additional tools such as a die grinder, rivet gun, ball peen hammer, and blue dent hammer.
- Ability to bring and use a set of minimum personal hand tools, including wrenches, hi-lok pliers, socket set, and bucking bars.
- Comfort working with structural drilling, riveting, and blind fasteners in a high-precision environment.

Work Environment
Work takes place in large, indoor heavy check hangars and shop areas dedicated to MRO activities. The first week is focused on orientation and safety training, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some sessions concluding by Thursday. After orientation, you will move to an assigned floor shift, which may be either 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., scheduled Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. The environment supports 10 to 20 hours of overtime typically, depending on project needs. You will work with a range of structural and sheet metal tools, including basic hand tools, hi-lok pliers, bucking bars, and specialized equipment such as blind fastener tools, brakes, stretchers, and other shop tooling. All work is indoors in a structured, safety-conscious setting aligned with MRO standards.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
