Job Title: CNC Mill Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating multi-axis CNC mills to produce small, high-precision components with short cycle times for aerospace applications. You will work with a variety of metals, hold tight tolerances down to one thousandth of an inch, and contribute directly to the production of structural components and assemblies used in commercial, corporate, and military aircraft.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate multi-axis CNC milling machines to produce small parts with short cycle times while maintaining high quality and efficiency.
  • Perform machine setups, including tooling selection, fixture installation, and program loading for production and long-run machining jobs.
  • Interpret and read blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Measure parts accurately to one thousandth of an inch using precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Machine components from materials including aluminum, titanium, Inconel, and stainless steel, adjusting parameters to account for material characteristics.
  • Use and understand G-code and M-code to run, adjust, and troubleshoot CNC programs, including Fanuc, Haas, and Mazak controls.
  • Monitor machine operations during production runs, making offsets and adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Perform in-process and final inspection of parts, documenting results and ensuring compliance with aerospace quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues such as tool wear, dimensional deviations, and surface defects, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain tooling, workholding, and equipment in good working condition, ensuring machines are clean, organized, and ready for operation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and assembly teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
  • Follow all safety procedures and quality standards, contributing to a clean, organized, and temperature-controlled shop environment.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience with multi-axis CNC machining, specifically running small parts with short cycle times.
  • Proficiency in setting up CNC milling machines, including tooling, fixturing, and program loading.
  • Ability to measure to one thousandth of an inch using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Hands-on experience machining aluminum, titanium, Inconel, and stainless steel.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of G-code and M-code for CNC machining operations.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Haas, or Mazak CNC controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform inspection and quality checks throughout the machining process.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills for resolving machining, setup, and production issues.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required by production needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace machining, aircraft assembly, or structural and mechanical aircraft components.
  • Experience or familiarity with airframe, structure, or aircraft mechanical work.
  • Exposure to CNC programming or editing on Fanuc, Haas, or Mazak platforms.
  • Experience with long-run production machining in a high-precision environment.
  • Comfort working with tooling selection, optimization, and process improvement.
  • Any related certifications or training in machining, CNC operation, or aerospace manufacturing are beneficial.
