The Production Technician I supports the production department by assisting senior technicians with day-to-day operations on the production line. In this entry-level role, you learn and apply strict quality standards, perform routine machine checks, and help identify defects under close supervision. You prepare and package products, assist with machine setup, and handle materials safely, including proper disposal of hazardous waste. Over time, you develop the ability to follow detailed instructions, prioritize routine tasks to improve efficiency, and troubleshoot minor production-related issues while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Support senior-level technicians in daily production activities under close supervision.
  • Learn and apply established quality standards, including understanding how to check for defects on the line.
  • Perform hourly checks of machines to monitor performance and identify potential issues.
  • Review and follow the quality process and help identify quality issues with oversight from senior technicians.
  • Prepare products for processing by wrapping, labeling, and staging items for production.
  • Load and unload product from equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with setting up and operating machines for advanced composite materials under supervision.
  • Perform basic machine operation and minor troubleshooting with oversight, escalating issues as needed.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure products meet specifications and are free of defects.
  • Handle materials, including movement and lifting of up to approximately 55 lbs of product and supplies.
  • Retrieve required items and materials for production to support continuous workflow.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions for machine operation and production procedures.
  • Use personal protective equipment and follow all safety procedures, including proper hazmat handling.
  • Dispose of hazardous waste safely in designated areas according to training and procedures.
  • Maintain work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe manner to support efficient operations.
  • Communicate clearly with leads, supervisors, and team members regarding equipment or production issues.
  • Escalate equipment and production problems by promptly notifying the lead, supervisor, or designee.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance overall production efficiency and quality.
  • Perform general production tasks such as mixing, compounding, assembly, packing, and inspection as needed.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the lead, supervisor, or their designee.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 months of experience working with composites or in a production environment (preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to operate and support production equipment.
  • Math skills sufficient to pass a math test, including the ability to convert grams to pounds.
  • Basic computer skills to support production and documentation activities.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions for machine operation and production processes.
  • High attention to detail to accurately check for defects and ensure quality standards.
  • Ability to perform quality inspection, defect identification, and hourly machine checks.
  • Capability to perform basic machine setup, operation, and minor troubleshooting with oversight.
  • Material handling skills, including packaging, wrapping, labeling, and lifting up to approximately 55 lbs.
  • Adherence to safety procedures, including consistent use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to learn and follow procedures for safe hazmat waste disposal.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with leads and supervisors.
  • Reliability and excellent attendance, including the ability to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts when needed.
  • Ability to maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Comfort with general labor, general production, assembly line work, and machine operation under close supervision.

  • Experience in production, general labor, or assembly line environments.
  • Background in working with advanced composite materials.
  • Exposure to compounding, mixing, and handling materials in a production setting.
  • Experience with packaging, packing, and inspection processes.
  • Familiarity with hand tools used in production and assembly.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and consistently up to approximately 55 lbs.
  • Experience working under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or similar standards.
  • Demonstrated team-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Comfort working in entry-level production support roles under close supervision while learning new skills.

Work Environment

This role is based in a hands-on production and manufacturing environment working with advanced composite materials. You work primarily on swing or night shifts, with one swing shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and one night shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The night shift trains on a day schedule for approximately two months, with day training hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The environment involves operating and supporting production machinery, performing hourly machine checks, and handling materials, including lifting up to approximately 55 lbs. You use personal protective equipment and follow strict safety and hazmat procedures. The facility emphasizes cleanliness and organization, requiring you to maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work area while working around machines, packaging stations, and material handling equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfield, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.15/hr.
